Plog Number 145
Ohio Constitutional Amendment

Hello Ploggers, how are you? I am hoping that we can all hang in there for the nicer weather that the meteorologist have promised us in a couple of days. Today was St. Patrick’s 🍀 Day and it was way too cold and rainy to go downtown to the parade. I have been, in the past and the parade is fabulous, but we passed on it this year. I can do cold and I can do a light rain but not cold, windy and heavy☔️ rain. But the heartier among us were still down there and had a great time.
I am excited to know that Ohioans are getting a chance to vote👍 on Women’s Reproductive rights. Two groups are proponents of the initiative; Ohioans for Reproductive Freedom and Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights. A 📝 petition was circulated for a ridiculous amount of signatures (414,446 valid signatures) and a grass roots movement was born. The Amendment has been delivered to our Attorney General Dave Yost’s office and will be on the November ballot. Lauren Beene, Executive Director of Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights has spoken about the positives that the law would bring to Ohio. The Constitutional Amendment that Michigan adopted last November is similar to what Ohio is now in the process of passing. We in Ohio would be proud to be as progressive as our neighbors to the northwest, the Michiganders. Other states including Kansas have adopted similar amendments protecting women’s reproductive rights. That seems to be the way to go since the fall of Roe last June.
Already this evening I saw a commercial in strong 👎 opposition to the Amendment. An anti abortion group named Protect Women Ohio, who's press secretary Amy Natoce is behind this particular ad. A $5 million campaign has been launched to oppose the amendment. The ad was focusing on parental input being denied by the Amendment. It also, very clearly couched women’s reproductive rights with Transgender rights. The commercial alluded to minors making crucial decisions without the input of their parents. The commercial is misleading and says nothing about the harm that denial of Women's Reproductive Rights inflicts on women. It also fails to mention that the very lives of women are being lost due to a lack of bodily autonomy that reaches way above personal preference and goes into medical decision making. Those facts seem to have been conveniently left out. Watch out for Natoce's input on this topic. She is misleading and focuses on taking away parents rights and allowing sex change surgeries without parental consent or notification. She is playing on ignorance to support the Pro Life side of the argument. She also served as Campaign manager for Dave Yost Attorney General when he was running for the office he currently holds. She is a powerful and well connected Anti Abortion voice. Natoce and Yost are both people worth watching in this arena.
I am anxious to hear the debates and I want to hear strong representation on the Pro Womens rights side. This is the time to be LOUD 📢 and on point. Throwing in some of the statistics of rising maternal mortality since the fall of Roe would be appropriate too. Pro-Lifers will not change their minds, but people need to hear the truth. Ohio has become so Red and Conservative and full of 45 followers, I will not predict anything. After all, we voted in JD Vance to represent us in the senate. All I know is that I will keep talking about the rights that women have lost at every given opportunity. After all, this is the whole reason 👌 for my Plog. As we hear these misleading ads, I want us to remember that this is more than about using abortion as elicit birth control. It is health care and can be the difference between life and death. Men would never let us control their reproductive 🍌 rights, so why should they control ours? If you are a woman and you dont believe in abortion, then dont have one. But when other women need it to save their lives, get out of the way. RECLAIM!
