Another Shooting
Hello Ploggers, how are you? Praying for the safety and security of all of you. How many times are we going to have to hear about another mass shooting? There have been countless tragedies caused by Americans with Assault style weapons. Many Americans have gotten used to the shock, pain, grief followed by nothing more than thoughts and prayers. I guess it is special Assault rifle thoughts and Prayers. There will be a politician who will call for an assault weapon ban. I saw the guy on the news earlier today. The guy was a Democrat. Then there will be other politicians who cater to their base by saying that they will never go against their Second Amendment rights. Those guys are usually Republicans. These are the ones who offer thoughts and prayers.
Lewiston Maine is the latest place to have a mass shooting. The shooter was still at large at the time I wrote this. His name was Robert Card and he didn’t even wear a mask when he was shooting. He had an extensive mental health illness. He was a 40 year old white male and he has plunged the city into post traumatic darkness. The city was in a "Shelter in Place" state of emergency. Card was a gun handler and killed 18 people and wounded more than a dozen. This was the 36th mas shooting this year. Maine averages 154 gun deaths per year.I could go on and on with the statistics but most of us already know what is up. I do want to talk about the politics a little.
Maine has two US Senators Susan Collins (R) and Angus King (I). Susan Collins has voted against gun control. She voted against banning the sale of assault rifles. And she supported allowing loaded guns and the concealed carry of firearms across state lines. She has taken $19,850 from the NRA according to United Against Gun Violence. Collins has been in the senate for 26 years. She has a B rating with the NRA.
Angus King has a positive record in his votes on gun control. He has been a senator for 10 years. He caucuses with Democrats in the Senate. He has voted for Bipartisan gun control.
Based on a brief research of he Maine Senators I have to hand partial credit for this shooting over to Susan Collins. She is the Senator who accepted the most funds from the NRA.
I saw a common sense approach to this problem and it is as plain as the nose on our faces. It came from Stephen King who lives in Maine. He said to "stop electing apologists for murder". He is right. It is obvious that these senators are not going to change their ways. They have Citizens United Supreme Court case on their side. They value guns and greed over the lives of their constituents. They will not stop their behavior. The only answer is to VOTE THEM OUT. Plain and simple. 23 years is far too many for Collins and her abhorrent behavior. RECLAIM!
