Federal Abortion Protection

Hello all, I hope that you are all well. I am fascinated by this Bill the house has passed for the second time in ten months. I guess we have to call it a Bill, since it is not a Law. (🎶I'm just a bill, I am only a bill and I'm sitting here on Capitol hill🎶) In its current stage it is HR 8296. It is called The Women’s Health Protection Act of 2021 (WHPA). It passed in the House 219-210 this July. So it was a close vote. It passed the House in 2021 but failed in the Senate. I like how they keep trying to pass it. If it becomes law it would protect the right to access to abortion despite those 6 Buzzards on the Supreme Court. The first time the Bill came up for vote was after Texas imposed a state 6 week abortion ban. The Supreme Court refused to rule on this last year when it came before them causing the Texas law to govern. Since the Dobbs case, women have been denied life-saving health care if they happen to be pregnant. The Dobbs decision has also caused far over-reaching effects. As we have discussed here in the Plog, women have been denied medications that are harmful to a developing fetus. Kind of as if your local Pharmacist has control over your uterus and what you choose to put in it. I have no problems in re-running a needed law.

On the local front I have learned that Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan voted for the Bill’s passage. Ryan is running for Senate in Ohio and has proven that he is Pro Choice. Now that the bill will be going to the Senate, it is an ideal time to contact your Senators and let them know how you want them to vote. If you go to Congress.gov you will see 8296 populate right away, if not just put it in the search box. Off to the right there is a section that says “Contact your Member”. You put in your address and a message will be sent to your representative. To contact a Senator is easier since there are only 2 per state. There are numerous searches that let you email your senator. The phone numbers to your senators are available at your State’s website. Alternatively you can call the United States Capitol switchboard (202) 224-3121. There the switchboard operator will connect you to the senate office you request. I know that we are ALL very busy but this is an opportunity to act. We can have our say and if they ignore us we can vote them out of office. I think if these Buzzards are overwhelmed with emails, phone calls and contacted by the public they would need to take it into consideration. Unfortunately in Ohio, Rob Portman is retiring and will likely vote Conservative Republican as he always has. I don’t think he would care about voiced opinions on the matter. The House has already voted and we know what the senate usually does. Because of Sinema and Manchin and the Filibuster the narrow Democratic majority ends up losing. These two Troglodytes could not even be convinced to vote for protecting voting rights.

The son of MLK made a statement about people like Sinema and Manchin. Regarding the celebration of the Holiday for his father. He said “there should be no celebration without legislation”. In other words, save your pious platitudes while refusing to stop Republicans voter suppression. I think he was on point with the danger of these people who pretend to be onboard with your struggle until they actually have to do something about it. Instead of RINO's (Republicans in name only) they are DINO's (Democrats in name only). We don't need confused elected officials. We need those who tell us their ideals and stick with them with it counts. We need honesty, integrity and sincerity.

So I always want us to be pro-active and a part of the process. This is a call to arms. This is our time to make a difference, to do more than just complain. I am not sure when the Senate votes, but they need to know our worthy opinions. They need to vote how we tell them to because we are their constituents. That is how this Democratic process is supposed to work, Right?!? I am going to call Portman and Sherrad Brown’s Offices and I will tell you the results in a later Plog. I ask you to do the same. Our two cents means a lot! By the way, shout out to Sherrad Brown, he voted for it in 2021.

RECLAIM!
