Happy Black History Month

Hello Ploggers and Happy February 2023. We will hear many stories this month about Black American heroes. Many of these heroes are known but way too many are not. Have you ever heard of “Little known facts from black history” or “Unsung heroes” or “Hidden Figures”. All of these programs strive to expose and shine💡 light upon Black Americans who did great things for this country in all areas including medicine, inventions, aeronautics, building, culinary skills, automotives and more. This month I plan to tell stories about things that black people have done to advance humankind. I think you will be surprised at some of the stories as I was too.

We have learned about the Daughters of the Confederacy and how they sought to rewrite post Civil war history in favor of White Supremacy. These war widows and daughters did a great job of having their say about things. While they were busy erecting statues to Generals Lee and Jackson, they down played any mention of black accomplishments. They influenced🏫 schools and school books and the teachings of the young. Now 150 years later, here we are watching Governor Ron De Santis trying to erase and ban any mention of our contributions. So, in part, here is to you Ron. I will expose, enlighten, 🎇 brag and make a huge deal of black accomplishments and history. And yes again it is about race and that is OK. Its OK to say RACE RACE RACE. Its Black History Month. Lets celebrate and talk!! To quote Dr. Bernice King when asked about life in America "America is, because we are".

I saw a list of 📚books that Florida teachers are banned from using, thanks to De Santis and his WOKE law which limits education. Here are some of the titles: “Before she was Harriet” about a young Harriet Tubman. “Dumpling Soup” with an Asian family eating a meal on the cover, “Chik Chak Shabbat about Jewish Heritage, “Fry Bread” a Native American Family Store, “The Gift of Ramadan” about a Muslim holiday, “The Rough Face Girl” about a Native American girl, “My Two Moms and Me” about a non-traditional gay family, “My Two Dads and Me” a non-traditional gay family, “Uncle Jed’s Barbershop”, Black Frontiers”, Celebrating different beliefs, and “Hush” a Thai Lullaby. I plan to go to my local library, check out these books from the kids section and see for myself if they are a danger to kids. Look for my Tiktok videos which I am now uploading to Instagram. I will be using these colorful books as props. While having fun, I will try to educate and make us all proud. RECLAIM!
