Plog Number 25
Heights Garden/City Walk

Hello all, how goes it. I am exhilarated and super busy tonight. It is hot and muggy enough for me to wear short shorts and not care what anyone thinks of it. I am in the mood to clean my house and I have to take advantage of that mood when it comes along. Loving the smell of Pine Sol.
Earlier today we went to the Annual Heights City-Garden Walk. Some of the homes are just average houses from around the corner where people have done spectacular things with their limited space. Others are total mansions. It has always been on my Bucket List to see the inside of a mansion. Today’s walk was as close as I have ever gotten to the inside of a mansion. The outdoor gardens at some of these places are as decked out as a modest home. You could eat, sleep, entertain and more at some of these houses in the outdoor garden area. This is my second time going to the City Garden Walk. Each time it give me ideas for my own yard.
But in addition to seeing the beautiful homes I met a woman who was out politicking for a local candidate. This woman’s first name was Peggy and since I have a sister with that name I liked her immediately. We got into a friendly “Heights” banter and conversation. Our kids both went to Roxboro and graduated from Heights High School an instant bond. She let me know that our Congressional District has been Gerrymandered and changed from No. 11 to No. 22. I knew that there was a lot of Gerrymandering and re-drawing of the district maps but I thought the fight was still ongoing. The League of Women Voters sued to get the maps to more fairly represent the State. The map had been drawn several times and rejected by the Ohio Supreme Court. But according to this Peggy, Governor DeWine signed the new maps into law. I looked it and she was right. This will result in a smaller district which includes Cleveland Heights, University Heights and Shaker Heights. We are a diverse and Liberal District but now it seems smaller and less powerful. District 11 used to go down as far South as Kent and as far East as Ashtabula. So will our Liberal district carry less weight? Here I am complaining about loss of women’s rights and Ohio has gone further and changed the rules in District size. I am sure this is a critical and important dirty trick that they snuck by us. But thanks to Peggy I know that people are organizing about the issue. She told me about a meeting that is planned to meet certain candidates and discuss the upcoming August 2, 2022 Primary Election. We don't usually have elections in August but I will be there front and center. I feel that awareness, education and talking about these issues is so important. Showing up to vote is the least I can do for my ancestors who fought and died for the right.
I feel out finessed by my sneaky State Legislators. While I was busy living my life they changed the rules in their favor.
I need to RECLAIM! I will RECLAIM!
