Hello ploggers how are you. Have you been enjoying the hot summer weather. I went to Walmart today and bought a🍉 watermelon, some🍈 cantaloupe,🍓 strawberries, and🍇 grapes. The plan is to make a fruit salad and take it into my friends at work tomorrow. We all bring something in and we all eat each other’s food and hang out. It is one of the things I miss about that job. I left there in July 2021 but I still keep up with my💗 girls who still work there. So I am looking forward to👀 seeing them.
Do you all remember President Jimmy Carter? He came about in the 1970’s as a one term President from Plains, Georgia. He was presiding when the Iran Hostage situation happened. I remember we had to boycott the Olympics that year. Things were dismal for Americans and we wanted our fellow Americans back home. There were 52 hostages who were held for 444 days. It was all that the news talked about at the time. But along came Ronald Reagan who saw the hostage situation as an opportunity to gain access to the White House. Somehow Reagan convinced the Iranians to keep the hostages longer. No release would happen until he got into office. As soon as he was sworn into office, the hostages were released. Of course that information didn’t come out until recently and long after Reagan’s death. It was very 👎underhanded and 👎unconscionable to keep the hostages longer for political gain. Many of us, myself included, knew nothing about this behind the scenes trickery. We just thought that the Iranians did it to enhance the Presidency of Ronald Reagan, but we never knew why?
So Jimmy Carter went back to Plains Georgia and is still alive to this day. He is 99 years🎂 old and will be 100🎂 on October 1st. His family has said that he is doing OK and has an interest in politics these days. He has been on Hospice🏨 care since 2023. He lost his dear❤️ wife Rosalyn November 19, 2023. He rarely makes public appearances anymore since he is wheelchair bound. He is a national treasure. He and his wife built actual houses for Habitat for Humanity. I have heard that he is hanging in to make it to be able to vote for Kamala Harris. I am pulling for him to make it to vote for Kamala Harris too. I am pulling for him to live as long as he can. He deserves that. But with a goal of voting for Kamala Harris, I expect to see him fulfill it. The fact that he has voiced that to his son is an amazing show of a determined mind. I had feared that he would succumb shortly after his wife died as many older couples do. But he hung on, with the help of his family and hospice care.
I remember an episode of Designing Women where Julia wanted to go to have dinner with the Carters and of course all kinds of things got in her way. It was a great episode. The respect that Julia had for the Carters was something I will always remember. I hope that Jimmy is able to vote early and fulfill this symbolic and significant wish. RECLAIM!!
