Ketanji Brown Jackson

Hello Ploggers, how are you? Como esta usted? It was HumpšŸ« Day when I wrote this. A hopeful sign that the week is half over and onto the weekend. The weather is supposed to be mid 70's both Saturday šŸŒž and Sunday. As I plogged about last week things have gone further. 5 Republican led states have gone to the Court of Appeals and have temporarily šŸ’©halted the Student Loan Debt Forgiveness. Haters! And a majority of Americans are poised to vote for them??? I knew they were working on it with that letter from 22 Republican governors.

I have been watching some of the new term of the Supreme Court with their newest Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. From what I have seen she is very impressive. Clancy Thomas must be thinking to himself ā€œI wish she would shut up like IšŸ˜’ doā€ or ā€œHow dare she show us up by acting involved, knowledgeable and caringā€. ā€œWe donā€™t do that, we stay silent and mysterious and care about no one.ā€ This is certainly my jaded opinion, but I think itā€™s not too far from the truth. I am sošŸ’œ proud of her. I want her to shinešŸŒž and explain herself and her thought process. The clip I saw was with her asking lots of pertinent and complicatedā“ questions. It was clear that she had advanced knowledge of the subject matter. Being new on a job can mean that you bring inšŸ© doughnuts, smile and try not to make a big show of yourself. That is how things go in my world. But in Ketanjiā€™s world she shone brightly and demanded attention. Just her being there was a historical moment and she seemed to relish in that. And she should relish in that. The case was about federal agencies authority to regulate land use and water pollution. She asked lots of informed questions. It sounded like she tested the time limits and patience of the other Justices but WHO CARES, she was making freaking history and all they had to do was deal with it.

Ketanji was a federal trial judge for 7 years. In 2021 she was elevated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. This court is known as a launching pad for the Supreme Court. She attended Harvard University for both college and law school. She was a Federal Public Defender in Washington D.C. for two years from 2005-2007.She is the first Supreme Court Justice to have been a prior Public Defender. As a PD she worked on appeals cases for Guantanamo detainees. Those could not have been easy cases, but that experience gives her a different perspective than other Justices. Of course she clerked for Justice Breyer. Overall, I would say she is more qualified than most of the other Justices she is now sitting beside. I have worked with numerous Judges and most of them are previous Prosecutors. Judges who were prior Public Defenders are different and in a good way. I myself am a prior Prosecutor for 6 years. I was hired by the late great Stephanie Tubbs Jones. I am being very honest and speaking from experience. I think the Public Defenders have to work harder than Prosecutors. They are starting from a more difficult position.

I saw a meme that went something like this:

Harriet led in 1849,

so Rosa could sit 1955,

so Ruby could walk 1960,

so Michelle could inspire 2000,

so Kamala could run 2020,

so Ketanji could rule 2022.

That says a lot. Women have been strong leaders šŸ‘ for so long. It was not just to get to 2022 and end up with less rights than we had in 1973. Something went wrong in our progress. But nothing this important is an easy straight uphill fight. There are ups and šŸ’¹ downs just like the stock market. Although we are in a bit of a quandary right now, I doubt that we are going to be held back for a long time. The fight has begun and everyone knows that we are up for it on both sides. It is good to know that we have Ketanji Brown Jackson on our side. She is Pro Choice and she will help women to RECLAIM!
