Marriage Equality

Hello Ploggers, I am hoping that you are well. I am happy with a part modern, part old fashioned Christmas for 2022. Shopping and eating Christmas 🍪 cookies and looking at our Christmas 🏮 lights.

A few Plogs back I talked about my Political Wish List. I had mentioned a National anti-voter suppression law. That is being worked on by the Supreme Court in the Moore v Harper case as I sit here 💻 ⌨️ typing. Whatever is decided in that case will become precedent. Whichever side passes Constitutional muster will be the law ⚖️ of the land. If the Supreme court decides in favor of Harper that would be great. Any other states that took the issue to court would find themselves bound by that precedent. So that is still a possibility. But what did get codified was The Marriage Equality Act. Lets talk about this law The vote went 61👍 yay-36 👎 nay in the US Senate! 3 did not vote. The Nay votes were from:💩 Barrasso Rep. WY, Blackburn Rep. TN, Boozman Rep. AR, Braun Rep IN, Cassidy Rep. LA, Coryn Rep TX, Cotton Rep AK, Cramer Rep. ND, Crapo Rep ID, Cruz Rep TX, Daines Rep. MT, Fischer Rep NE, Graham Rep. SC, Grassley Rep. IA, Haerty Rep. TN, Hawley Rep. MO, Hoeven Rep. ND, Hyde-Smith Rep. MS, Inhofe Rep. ok, Johnson R, WI, Kennedy Rep. LA, Lankford Rep. OK Lee Rep UT, Marshall Rep KS, McConnell Rep KY, Moran Rep KS, Paul Rep. KY, Risch Rep ID, Rounds rep SD, Rubio Rep FL, Scott Rep FLA, Scott Rep SC, Shelby Rep. AL, Thune Rep SD, Tuberville Rep AL, Wicker Rep MS. The Non voters were Toomey Rep. PA, Sasse Rep NE, Warnock Dem. GA. I guess Warnock was busy winning in Georgia. He is excused. Apparently they don't do proxy votes.

The number of senate and house votes AGAINST this legislation was outlandish and totally Republican. So business as usual, they are more dedicated to being 🚽 obstructionists than to helping their constituents who they are paid 💰 well to represent. B*tch McConnell who is in an interracial marriage voted against the law 👀. This despite the fact that he is married to a clearly Asian woman. Lyndsay Graham voted against the law too. Go figure! I wonder how Clarence Thomas would vote in this matter. He is in an interracial marriage but seems to not want anyone else to have the rights that he enjoys. What is the matter with these guys? Just how far back do they want to turn the clock. Is it a vote based on racism, homophobia, self-hatred, hatred of spouse or just partisan politics. WTF I really want to know some answers to these questions. I am pretty sure that some of these Nays have loved ones and or voters who are either LGBTQ+ or bi-racially married. The world is turning brown and that includes in these red states. To their credit, Republican Senators Rob Portman of Ohio and Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of Utah all voted 👍 Yay!

So the law has been passed and Smoking 🚬 Joe Biden is making the most of the last month with a majority Democratic House and Senate. That is the way you do that, and RECLAIM!
