Plog Number 155
Mifepristone a Deaux

Hello Ploggers, how are you. I hope you are all doing great and holding on to your 👒hats. So much is going on politically these days. I strive to keep up with everything. Coming to my 💻computer has definitely become part of my sanity maintenance. I try to stay abreast of things while they break into the news. I only post 3 times a week nowadays. Lately I link my plogs into my Tik Tok Bio and I post the link on Facebook. Still trying to get the word out.
I plogged back in February about these drugs. Plog Number 135 entitled Mifepristone and Misoprostal. I spoke about how the use of the💊 drug was on the rise since the fall of Roe and that its safety was now being questioned. Federal Judge Kacsmaryk from the Northern District of Texas (a 45 appointee) was waiting to announce his decision on future use of the drug nationwide. He has now announced his decision and 👎 suspended the approval of Mifepristone via preliminary injunction. This despite the FDA's sanction of the drug for the past 20 + years. Overruling the FDA makes this a dangerous and erroneous precedent. Allowing this judge to do this, invalidates the congressionally sanctioned power given to a federal agency. The FDA and any other federal agency can find themselves cut off at the knees by the federal judiciary. Further the 20 year record of safety has been ignored in favor of partisan politics. There is a 7 day appeal period. The Biden administration has already appealed👍. Knowing a little about Kacsmaryk and his background, I was not surprised at his decision. He is following the conservative trend and the lead of 45.
A federal Judge in Washington State Thomas O Rice, an Obama appointee ruled to partially grant a request from 17 states and DC. This judge blocked the FDA from making any changes to the drug’s access in the states that sued. Both decisions 👨⚖️ were announced on the same day, only minutes apart. Even Merrick Garland weighed in on the Texas ruling overreaching into the FDA’s domain. So what do these ruling mean? It means Limbo. It means Supreme Court Jurisdiction. It really symbolizes the political divide in this country on this issue. The DOJ has already filed an appeal to the Texas decision. Some court has to decide the issue.
I personally think it is all hopeful . The will of the people versus the will of the courts. Politically it is a loser for Republicans. It is costing them elections and preventing any red waves. It is also a loser for poor women. Women are vulnerable and losing rights to control their bodies. But there is a ray🌝 of hope with states like Washington and their common sense rulings. RECLAIM!
