Products that kill

Hello Ploggers, Happy Hump Day! I swear the weeks go by so fast for me. I am blessed to have a job that I love 😃 and that I look forward to going to every day. I am learning so much that it makes me wonder what I was doing prior to all of this. But the point is to look forward not backwards. So here I go feeling happily less dumb and more knowledgeable every day.

The other day I was on a fascinating group 📲 text with my good friends and we were talking about products that are☠️ dangerous to women. Women in specific, but women 👎of color in particular. There are many products out there that promised us to be more beautiful, clean, and odorless. The marketers obviously found a way to exploit us through our insecurities. Pretty 👺 heinous stuff for sure. So lets call out these horrible products. Many of them are no longer around. But they were very popular at one time. Some are the subject of class action lawsuits. And another thing.... why are there fewer products geared towards smelly men? Anatomy, gullibility who knows???

Douche bags to be used with vinegar or perfumed water and squirted into a woman’s vagina. It has been proven that a woman’s vaginal PH is best at around 7.2. Vinegar is very acidic with a PH of 2-3. So the idea of forcing that type of fluid into your vagina is extremely unhealthy. It doesn’t fight infection or yeast. It just makes you raw and smell like a 🍅 salad. Is that better than 🍤fish? Douches in general have fallen out of favor. OB/GYN disfavors forcing any commercial products upward in that area. The trend now is to let the vagina and its fluids wash themselves out as it is their job to do. Soap and 🛀 water daily is the answer.

Another vaginal trend was Talcum Powder in the underwear and on the crotch. There is pretty solid proof that the use of talcum powder in this way was very unhealthy. It has been proven to be cancer causing. Cancers of the Uterus, Endometrium and Ovaries have been linked to the use of powders as an odor deterrent and as a part of grooming. Those darn female odors again.

Another product is the Lye hair relaxer that women have used to straighten their hair. Madame C.J. Walker introduced this product in response to a desire for straight hairstyles. After all the fashion statements made with this straight hair, it has been shown that the perms cause uterine fibroids and cancer. The WNBA has banned it for its players. D. L. Hughley talked about how these products were made so that black women could feel better about their “nappy” hair. He also said that the douches and powder use was a response to being considered “dirty” and “smelly” and a desire to be socially acceptable. I think he is absolutely right. Good for him to have spotlighted this issue.

Now we have a product called Lumi which gets rid of body odor on any and all parts of our bodies. I have already plogged about why I feel that product will not fare well.

So the lesson here is that we as women. have to make thoughtful choices about what things we use just to make us more socially acceptable. We can not trust marketing. Gone are the days of Summer’s Eve, Lye hair relaxers and Shower 🚿 to Shower body powder. I remember the commercial and jingle. “A🎶 sprinkle a day helps keep odor 🎶 away”. Some woman was singing in her shower cap and towel about how happy she was to be fresh and clean. God made us💐 smelly so be natural and proud, just like men do RECLAIM!
