Real Hero's
Hello all, hope you are all hanging in there. I am not totally sure when I will publish this post but it is Wednesday right now and I consider that Hump Day. I haven’t done much today, but I am reading and learning more and more each time I write a plog. Sometimes I get mad, sometimes I get happy and sometimes I feel helpless and overwhelmed. I am trying to focus my brain power on not only my plog because it is a great release for me, but on a real and tangible solution. Yes a solution for recapturing the reproductive rights of women of America. That is a big problem which will require a big solution.
Face it, women (and some men) are pissed off and are already organizing. Lawyers are at work preparing to argue over constitutionality and human rights. Just to name a few National organizations there are The ACLU, Planned Parenthood, The Center for Reproductive Rights and NARAL, Pro Choice America, National Abortion Federation, National Council of Jewish women and National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association. I have learned of some Black Women’s groups that were established for reproductive rights and the health of back women. There is: Sister Song, the AFIYA Center, The Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Black women’s Health Imperative, Black Women for Wellness, In our Own Voice, New Voices, Sister Love Inc, Sister Reach, Sister Song, and Spark. My hat is off to these groups who existed long before the horrible Dobbs case. Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes, so the need is not new at all.
My friend Edie shared a TikTok about a 19 year old Mexicana who is using her Millennial and youthful mind to speak out about abortion rights. Her name is OliviaJulianna on TikTok. I visited her channel and watched numerous speeches she gave on the topic. She resides in either Texas or Florida and organized a way to crash the site that Abbott set up to whistle blow women who were seeking abortion in the state of Texas. She used a similar tactic with registration for 45 rallies. She garnered enough people to go on the offensive websites and make false reservations or complaints. This caused havoc in both systems and shut them down temporarily. Hurrah and keep up the good work young lady!!! She has found herself being criticized by Matt Gaetz. He criticized her for her looks and was unapologetic about it. I plogged about it in an earlier post called “The Ugly Tree”. Since her brush with Gaetz she has been fundraising and is already above 2 million. She is 19 years old and so eloquent. Talk about making lemonade from lemons.
The organizations are providing tangible aid to women in need. They are providing access to safe abortions with rides to areas where they are legal. They are providing support, council and advise to women in need. I intend to celebrate and highlight as many of these women and organizations as I discover.
