The Pact Act

Hello Ploggers, Howdie Doo! I hope you are all just Dandy. I have to plog about the Pact Act bill which has finally passed the Senate. Senate Republicans revisited their hateful vote and passed the law that ensures healthcare for injured Veterans. The Senate vote was 86-11 On August 2, 2022. Do you think that the negativity got to them? I am guessing that B*tch McConnell couldn’t think of a way to spin their actions into any kind of salvageable win for their party. It was so NOT A GOOD LOOK for them to have voted in that way and then fist pumped about it on the Senate floor. Since I plogged about it, I am sure that major bloggers and podcasters shouted about it loudly. Jon Stewart was a strong voice and huge platform shining a light on their vote. The hypocrisy of supporting Veterans in word only and then hurting them at the same time just was not going to work. It seems as if the Republican senators are very disconnected from real life problems and simple decency. They seem to be totally clueless. But I thought they had clerks and interns who lived in the real (non-millionaire) world and that these people would tell them what to do. If they had people like that in their employ and they listened to them, they could try to take credit for “saving the lives of Veterans’. Now instead they will be remembered as the spineless hacks who sold Veterans down the river, fist bumped over it and then had a change of heart. Their role in the political process is proving itself to be more and more unnecessary as the days go by.

It seems that the bill was passed in part because it was just the right thing to do. No matter the political fallout, that bill should never have been voted down. Now that we have Senators voting for the good of Americans maybe we can get them to vote to lower the price of Insulin. Or maybe to control gas prices. Or to provide more baby formula. Maybe they will stop voting in ways to make Joe look bad and vote what is best for the people. We can always be optimistic…can't we? And what about the 11 who voted against it even after all of the political pressure? The names of those Senators are as follows: Pat Toomey Pa, Rand Paul Ky, Mike Crapo Id, Thom Tillis NC, James Lankford Ok, Mike Lee Ut, Cynthia Lummis Wy, James Risch Id, Mitt Romney Ut, Richard Shelby Al, Tommy Tuberville Al. I read their reasons for still voting no and they mostly give lip service to wanting to help veterans but not with this bill that gives Democrats too much leeway to implement said help. Cynthia Lummis Wy said that the number of Veterans waiting for this help would jump from 168,000 to over 1 million. And the problem with that would be what Cynthia...? Senator Thom Tillis NC said the bill would cause long wait lines and backlogs. That already exists Thom. A favorite of mine was Rand Paul Ky. He said the law would put the economy at risk. Pat Toomey Pa called the bill a budgetary gimmick.

As I see it, the reasons for those who still held out were all thinly veiled financial and control issues. But where is the concern for financial issues when the bills apply to something they are passionate about? And how about forcing millionaires to pay their fair share of taxes. That would help ease the financial burdens that they are so concerned about. Anyway, the bill is headed to Joe’s desk and he is a supporter and will sign it soon. I am happy for the Veterans to get some of the help that they need. Many Vets are post traumatic and suicidal. They have been hailed as hero’s but not given the support that they deserve. My husband is a Veteran and falls directly into the category which the Pact Act is targeted to. Being in Operation Desert storm and near the burning oil pits that Saddam Hussein had ordered, has had ill effects on his health. I pray that Veterans actually get back some of what they lost during their time in service to their country. RECLAIM
