The War Against W.O.K.E.
Hello Ploggers, how are you. I have just finished cutting the lawn. The late August lawn is thick and lush in the back because of all the recent rain. The front lawn still has brown spots from the July sun and lack of rain. But cutting it all bumped me up to over 10,000 steps and the yard looks great, Win Win :)
I was surfing through the different news outlets before deciding that I wanted to go outside and ignore them all. But I saw a quick sound bite where Ron DeSantis was giving a speech in Ohio of all places promoting different politicians. I guess he feels so confident in Florida he is spreading his sunshine to other places SMH. Florida had Primary Election today and the opponent to DeSantis will be decided tonight. His place as the Republican candidate is unchallenged. Anyways he was shouting about the need to stay away from the Woke crowd. Now I plogged early on about Wokeness but it must be revisited. DeSantis uses the word “Woke” to manipulate and control the Republican voters. He combines Critical Race Theory (CRT) with Woke and turns them into a scary force on the regular. He actually introduced a law to stop WOKE activism. His woke acronym means the following: stop Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees. The Republican Legislature of Florida actually passed the bill 24-15 in April 2022. But more recently a Tallahassee US District Judge said that the Woke Act violates the First Amendment in the workplace. It was a group of businesses who sued over the first amendment breach that this law imposes. One of the businesses was Ben and Jerry’s yum 🍧. The decision even said that the act bordered on “unintelligible”. I wonder what he meant by that? But they granted a Temporary Injunction on enforcing the law in the workplace.
The fact that an actual law was drafted using the word Kids is such a clear manipulation. CRT is not taught to kids. It is a college level course. It seems to me that DeSantis is playing to his base and their fears and prejudices. He is taking a play out of the Republican, 45, Newt Gingrich designed playbook. Quashing education is the opposite of what is healthy in dealing with our racial problems in this country. I do not think that German kids are purposely shielded from the horrors of the Holocaust and Nazi Germany. Shielding anyone from their true history is much more harmful than exposing it. Besides violating the First Amendment the law also is said to be overbroad and imprecise. It looks at history and allows "someone" to put labels on it as good for some and bad for others. The bad stuff goes by the wayside. Shouldn't history be taught objectively and allow the learner to have an interpretation of their own? Interpreting it first and then giving it out in cleaned up spurts is censorship and biased. Please Ron, do better!
I recently saw an ad about Ruby Bridges, who is still alive today. We all owe her a great big Thank you for what she went through. She and her family were brave pioneers and heros 💪 👍. She is only 67 years old. The article said that the white adults who were there throwing rocks at a 6 year old girl do not want to be exposed about their cruel acts. They are ashamed, as they should be. Their acts speak for themselves without anyone pre-interpreting them for purposes of sparing bad feelings. So DeSantis woke law seems too ethereal and too open to a lot of interpretation by "someone"...but who. It seems as though the law was pushed forward as a political ploy on the part of DeSantis. It serves as a way to cover up the truth and is probably a distraction. DeSantis' meaning of woke is really STAY ASLEEP ZZZzzz and never hear the truth so you don't have to feel bad about anything, ever. Live in the land of rainbows 🌈 and unicorns 🐎 happily ever after. The law is horrible and perpetuates misunderstanding between the races and makes it harder to co-exist. As the lawsuit continues to be challenged in the court system it will possibly reach the Supreme Court. I shutter to think what self-hating Thomas and this lopsided court will decide about the law.
