Washington State

Hello Ploggers, how are you. I am happily welcoming the 🌷 spring. I know that April is not too late to have a snow ❄️ storm but the temp today was 76 and 🌞 sunny. I can’t help but get excited about that. This is the reward for living in a 4 season state.

I want to talk about how cool I think Washington State is. Recently they just have been doing outstanding things 🌟 that hit the national 🔦 spotlight. However I suspect that they do awesome stuff on a daily basis and it is so expected from them that we don’t always hear about it. So my list is far from exhaustive, but here goes. One more thing, isn't Seattle the setting for those 💋 sexy 50 Shades of Grey books?

*They have banned 🚫 assault weapons in their state. That is HUGE!! Their state senate banned them. House Bill 1240 was passed 27-21 to ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons in the state. This was just passed on April 8, 2023 and is not even a week old. Their Governor is Jay Inslee (D). He has been making appearances on National Television about the huge step that they are making towards saving lives in their state. Sales of these weapons have gone up dramatically, but that will end when the ban takes effect. The NRA must be really 😣 upset about that. They know that these weapons don’t belong on the streets.

** Another stupendous thing coming out of that state is District Judge Thomas Rice who ruled in favor of keeping Mifepristone legal for those 17 states named in a lawsuit. Rice ruled within minutes of Judge Kacsmaryk in Texas who tried to outlaw the use of the drug and to overrule a 20 year precedent set by the FDA. I have to wonder if Rice knew of the timing or if he just did the right thing and it happened to be within minutes of another important case. Either way. I think he rocks. Rice was appointed by Obama in 2011 and was voted in by the Senate in a 93:4 vote. Rice is Pro Choice.

***One more thing about Washington State. Abortion has been legal since 1970, despite the fall of Roe. The procedure is legal up to the point of fetal viability as determined by the provider or to protect the life or health of the pregnant individual. Just these things alone are so pro women's reproductive rights. That type of thinking is so 1970's not present day. I could write more of the accolades of Washington State but rather than do that, I want to urge that all states Red or Blue follow their lead RECLAIM!

********* ADDENDUM********

The Supreme Court decided in favor of upholding the lawfulness of Mifepristone. Alito wrote the opinion and overruled the ROGUE Federal Judge from Texas who tried to outlaw it's use and upend the legal authority of potentially all federal agencies. The Texas decision was stayed. That is such good news 👍 RECLAIM!
